Home to adventure, beauty, innovation, and history, Western Maryland is a one-of-a-kind destination with a wealth of possibilities for exploring architecture and U.S. history, enjoying recreational activities, and more. It is in this picturesque part of the country you will find Washington County. Home to roughly 150,000 residents, the county has the distinction of being the first named for George Washington. Within the county, there are numerous historic and historical sites, as well as a long list of picturesque parks, and charming cities, towns, and smaller communities. Among them is Rohrersville, Maryland.
The charming little census-designated place known as Rohrersville has a population of fewer than two hundred residents. Despite its small size, the community has a long, intriguing history dating back to the 1730s when its first settlers arrived. In 1732 William Parks patented a tract of 1,550 acres, calling it Park Hill, which encompassed present-day Rohrersville. In 1766, near the present village, a French immigrant named Frederick Rohrer settled and his sons Samuel and Daniel started a grist mill which ultimately led to the establishment of the village during the 1810s and 1820s. However, it wasn’t until 1836 that the name Rohrersville first appeared. The arrival of the railroad brought continued prosperity to the community, along with the construction of many buildings in Victorian styles. Many of these beautiful Victorian buildings still remain.
Comprised of less than one square mile, Rohrersville is a lovely place to buy a home in the 21779 zip code of Western Maryland, near the Pennsylvania border. Its proximity to other communities’ amenities and attractions makes it an appealing option for homebuyers desiring a quiet small-town lifestyle. Homes for sale in Rohrersville include historical properties, and newer options as well. Because it is a small village, the number of available Rohrersville properties are few, however, they are quality. Furthermore, Rohrersville properties are diverse in age, size, and architectural style so listing prices fall across a relatively broad range.
